Wild Scotland

As I mentioned in a previous post, camping in Scotland is WILD! That is to say, you can camp where ever you’d like, just be sure to ask for permission from the owners.

Now sometimes you do not have the luxury of asking a land owner and you just need to take up rights for the night. Well, if you are lucky enough and you manage to squat for 7 years, under Scottish law you can claim ownership of the land you have been occupying. Why? Scotland has just over 5 million people (the highest it has ever been) and are begging people to settle in their remote areas as many leave to find their fortune elsewhere.

Well that’s the dream anyways – might be more of a retirement plan.
